While much of the news surrounding Ghost these days either surrounds their current legal issues or their summer tour with Iron Maiden, there is a plan in place for their next album. During an interview with the Albuquerque Journal, Tobias Forge, who performs as Papa Emeritus but often does interviews disguised as one of the band's Nameless Ghouls, offered more insight on the direction of their next album.

“Having in mind that the previous record was about the absence of God or the absence of deities, this new one is going to be about the return of God,” the musician said. “You know, God’s wrath cast upon the suffering humans, so it will be a little bit more biblical in that sense, which in turn makes it darker, a little bit more apocalyptic, I think. That’s basically what I can tell you about it right now.”

The vocalist added that he's continually writing, so it's not as if he's starting from scratch on the upcoming release. “It’s a pick and mix of a lot of different ideas and stuff laying around, a lot of new stuff being added to the pile," he explained. "It’s a constant thinking ahead, and now, already now, I’m thinking about album No. 5, because there are songs coming out now or coming up being written that I feel like that won’t fit into the new album, so I’ll put that one onto the next one instead.”

It's already been revealed that the band is planning to hit the studio in mid-August to start recording the album, with the paper stating that the disc is tentatively expected around this same time next year. The singer also previously expressed his desire to reunite with Swedish producer Klas Ahlund, who also oversaw the band's Meliora album, while working on the disc.

As stated, Ghost are opening shows for Iron Maiden this summer. See their dates listed here.
