A couple of years ago, I met really cool chick at the BBQ Festival in Owensboro. She worked in the media business too on a local TV station, so after a long evening of covering the Fest, a few of us went out for pizza and beer. Of course, in this digital age, we found each other on Facebook and became official "friends." A few months later, I noticed that she rented out her condo in Newburgh and had moved to Louisville to work at a much bigger station. Then, I noticed on Facebook that she quit media all together and was about to embark on a journey around the world.

Many of you may remember Eyewitness News morning anchor Kara Kirtley. The spunky blonde always made tough mornings a little brighter in the tristate. Kara's tenure in Louisville was relatively short lived because she had some bigger life goals to attend to.

In 2015, Kara signed up for The World Race. The mission-based journey has taken her all over the world to change lives.

According to worldrace.org:

There is a generation of radicals whose heartbeat is to see a changed world. It's a generation that's dissatisfied with the status quo and is actively rising to the challenge of seeing the world transformed through tangible expressions of God's love. World Racers are seeing lives changed in nations all over the world.

I look forward to opening Facebook and seeing all of the people Kara has met and places she has journeyed to. It's a welcome break from click bait, selfies and constant complaining. This morning, she posted the photos of her hike with a lion; an actual lion. It's all surreal to me because Kara is my age. She's in her Thirties and decided to completely put her life on hold to make a difference in the lives of people all across the globe she doesn't know by sharing her faith. Kara has put aside her own comforts and even personal safety to become a part of something bigger. That's pretty phenomenal to me.

Here are some of my favorites from Kara.

Keep up the amazing work, Kara!
