Texting certainly has its place in our lives. Sure it is a great option for quickly exchanging brief messages with someone, but it can also feel pretty impersonal at times. I am specifically talking about a salutation of some sort, like a "Happy Birthday" or in this case "Merry Christmas!"

Comedian Jon Lajoie (The League) presents this song about that very topic...the Christmas text. Could there be anything more insincere than a "Merry Christmas" text? I dunno. Here's the way I see it. If we are good enough friends and you sincerely want to wish me a Merry Christmas, wouldn't you call me and tell me personally? I'm not saying that's the only way to pass along tidings of comfort and joy (comfort and joy) - you could also send me some sort of card. At least then I know you put a little bit of effort into it.

Don't get me wrong, I do the same thing with birthday wishes on Facebook, so I can't stay on this soapbox for long. I'll send out a generic "Happy birthday" wish to whichever friend(s) is celebrating on any given day. Maybe I just see that as a different situation. I think I've already spent too much time thinking about this anyway, and you're probably already halfway through the song by now and not even reading this sentence.

Having said all of this - Merry Christmas!
