Having worked in rock radio for 5 years now, I find it amazing that I had no idea what the 27 Club was. With the death of singer Amy Winehouse, age 27, did the club just get another member? And should I be nervous since I turn 27 in about 9 months?

There are many famous people who are apart of the 27 Club, most of them are listed on Wikipedia. However there is a core group of rock stars that the myth surrounds. Those include Kurt Cobain, Janice Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Brian Jones.

3 of that 5 died mostly due to partying, drinking and drugs. Classic 70's band going-ons. Brian Jones was a founding member of the Rolling Stones, he drowned in a pool in what the coroner described as an 'unfortunate misadventure'.

And pretty much everyone knows what happened to Kurt Cobain.

So was Amy Winehouse another member of the '27 Club'? Was anyone honestly surprised when you heard the news this weekend? Do you think the '27 Club' , or the 'Forever 27 Club', actually exists or is it it myth?
