Diamond Pet Foods is expanded an earlier recall this month to include some more popular brands of dry dog and cat food due to a potential salmonella contamination.

The recalled brands were manufactured at the Gaston, South Carolina, plant between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012.  The recall was issued in response to the possibility of salmonella bacteria.  The brands of dry cat and dog food listed above were manufactured in its Gaston, S.C. facility between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012.

Diamond Pet Food brands are sold at Tractor Supply and Rural King stores in Indiana and Illinois.

The recall has spread to 20 states.

On May 4, Diamond Pet Foods issued a recall for Diamond Naturals Small Breed Adult Dog Lamb & Rice Formula.  Sample, 6 pound and 18 pound bag sizes were included in that recall.  Production information and product codes for all the recalled brands are listed below.

Animals effected by salmonella poisoning usually have less of an appetite, have a fever and have a sore belly.  If not treated by a vet, the animal will become very groggy, have diarrhea, fever and vomiting.  Healthy pets can be carriers of salmonella and infect other animals and humans.
