Def Leppard / Dio Guitarist Vivian Campbell’s Cancer Is in Remission Once Again
Legendary Def Leppard / Dio guitarist Vivian Campbell has led an extremely up-and-down battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. There’s now some good news to share as Campbell has announced for the second time that his cancer is in remission.
Vivian Campbell began his incredible career with a band called Sweet Savage, but really became a guitar god during his time with Dio. After his work on the ‘Holy Diver’ album, it became obvious that he was to Ronnie James Dio what Randy Rhoads was to Ozzy Osbourne. After his stint in Dio, Campbell eventually moved on to Def Leppard, where he has remained for 22 years.
Not to long after beginning chemotherapy in early 2013, Campbell announced that his cancer was in remission. The rock and metal community celebrated Campbell’s recovery, but in May 2014, the shredder shared that the cancer seemed to be coming back. However, for the second time, Vivian Campbell’s lymphoma is officially in remission.
Campbell revealed the good news on his Facebook page:
For those of you that give a toss, here’s the latest and greatest on my cancer situation. I’m currently in Boston and I did a scan on Tuesday morning. The scan shows that the cancer is in remission. Great news, but I’m trying not to get too excited about it as I heard that same phrase late last year only to be disappointed again a few months after when it returned. The plan is to do a stem cell transplant as soon as the tour is finished. However, to keep me in remission my doctors have recommended that I do another, 3rd, round of the chemo (I.C.E.), so I’m back in hospital, all hooked up and doing my rock n’ roll drugs. Keef would be most proud!
We’d like to send our best wishes to Vivian Campbell during this latest stage of his cancer battle. You can make it, Vivian! Beat this thing!
