Here’s your feel-good story of the day. A young rock band jamming in Compton, Calif., was recently visited by police, but instead of shutting their practice session down, an officer actually picked up a guitar to play Iron Maiden and The Offspring with them!

A local band called Misled Youth got together for the tried and true tradition of jamming at your parents’ house. While the guys were working on their playing, LAPD Sheriff’s Deputy Miguel Garcia overheard the noise. Garcia and his partner had just wrapped up an investigation nearby, and thinking the young musicians sounded pretty good, the policeman followed the sound to search out its origin.

Misled Youth had the typical reaction to seeing a cop roll up on their practice space — “Oh, we’re in trouble.” Instead of pulling the plug, Deputy Garcia told the guys he was a guitarist himself. “I’m not sure exactly what happened, but at some point, they kind of put the guitar in my direction and said, ‘Let’s see what you got.’”

The veteran LAPD officer ended up jamming songs like Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper” and The Offspring’s “The Kids Aren’t Alright” with Misled Youth:

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department even posted a short clip of Garcia mid-performance:

Now, that some cool community policing! Hats off to Misled Youth and Deputy Garcia for this one! [via Metal Injection]
