Consumerism Hits Bedrock In ‘The Flintstones’ #2 [Preview]

Flintstones #2, DC Comics

Of all the titles coming out of DC‘s current Hanna-Barbera line, I don’t think that any of us really expected that The Flintstones would be the most unexpectedly mystifying. If you missed the first issue, it took television’s stone-age Honeymooners and turned it into a satire that got unexpectedly dark, casting Bedrock as an amoral prototype for all of our modern failings and conflicts.

And in the second issue, they’re going shopping.

No, seriously: Judging by the preview below, Flintstones #2 focuses on the rise of consumerism in prehistoric times, and in just five pages, it’s already getting pretty dark in at least three different ways that, again, I’m not sure anybody expected. Give it a read:

Ooh boy. Things are not looking so good for that poor garage goat. But then, I suppose that’s what happens when you take semi-sentient animal appliances to their logical conclusion. As for the book itself, I’m still not sure where to stand on it, but I have to admit, I’m pretty curious as to where they got that television.

Here’s the official solicitation:
