Join the American Red Cross Southwestern Indiana Chapter for the annual Rock and Roll Up Your Sleeve for Heroes blood drive on Monday, March 17, 2014 from 10a.m.-6p.m. at the Red Cross Prevention Center, 29 S. Stockwell Road in Evansville.

Family and friends are invited to enjoy food from The Pie Pan. Everyone who comes to donate will receive a free Red Cross t-shirt.

“We are very fortunate to have the support we do from donors in our region.  However, we are also looking forward to seeing new faces,” Amy Canterbury, Regional CEO of the Evansville/Wabash Valley Red Cross said. “We encourage you to make a difference by joining us to donate. Then stick around to enjoy goodies from The Pie Pan.”

The need for blood is constant. Did you know the Red Cross collects and distributes more than 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply each year and that hospital patients need about 44,000 units of blood each day? Giving blood is an easy way to impact the community and make an impact in someone’s life. Just one blood donation can help save up to three lives.

Donors are strongly encouraged to make an appointment. Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to schedule a time or for more information. Enter sponsor code 0245812.

How to donate blood

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in Indiana), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
