Nintendo has announced that the 3DS will receive a brand-new turn-based strategy game called Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. from Intelligent Systems, creators of the Fire Emblem and Advance Wars series.

The announcement came from a developer roundtable event on June 11 during E3 2014. The title will be exclusive to the 3DS and is "a new take on strategy games inspired by third-person shooters." The first thing you'll notice about the game just by looking at the screens and the title itself is that it's set in a steampunk world and has very comic book-like aesthetics. S.T.E.A.M. refers to a group of special forces soldiers who use steam-powered gadgets and weapons to fight off aliens.

An over-the-shoulder, third-person perspective is used to show off the depth and verticality of the levels, making you feel like you're in the action with your squad, which is made up of four team members that you can customize. In battle, every move you make and every action you take depletes the levels of a steam gauge, so you'll have to think very strategically to make sure you don't waste precious steam power.

There's no set release date for Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., but it's slated for a launch in 2015 exclusively for the 3DS family of systems. We'll update you as more information about this steampunk-powered title is revealed.
