For all the industries that have been shipped overseas, America is still the entertainment capital of the world. And what better way to celebrate our great nation than with one of its greatest exports?
In honor of the Fourth of July, here are 10 patriotic classics that are sure to turn the silver screen red, white and blue.
Take three former members of Nirvana, put them together on a stage with their instruments and a stack of amps, and what do you get? The rock ‘n’ roll reunion of the decade — albeit one that played only briefly, and for an audience of one.
It all happened when lead Foo Fighter and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl invited his old compadre, bassist Krist Novoselic, to come out for a Foos show. During pre-concert rehearsals, as the two were warming up with Foo Fighters/ex-Nirvana guitarist Pat Smear, Grohl realized something special was about to happen.
It was one of the biggest albums of the ’90s, helping to usher in the rise of grunge and the birth of the alternative nation, so it’s only fitting that Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ will celebrate its 20th birthday in style.
In fact, it looks like the upcoming deluxe reissue — consisting of four CDs and a DVD — will include everything but a scrap of flannel from Kurt Cobain’s wardrobe. Though the set’s final track listing is as yet unknown — and, given the fact that there’s already an entire box of Nirvana rarities on the market, it seems likely that those extra discs will include some previously released material — at least one report indicates that the DVD will boast a concert making its first appearance from the vaults.
He’s been one of the most sought-after producers in rock for 25 years — and now that he’s also co-chairman of Columbia Records, Rick Rubin is also one of the busiest, with his hands in a dizzying list of current and upcoming projects.
They don’t have a release date, a title, or even a record company waiting to get it onto the shelves, but Soundgarden is in the studio working on its first new album in 15 years – and during a pair of recent interviews, frontman Chris Cornell and guitarist Kim Thayil hinted at what fans can expect to hear.
“We’re kind of doing it in stages,” says Thayil, adding, “We have about 14 songs in various stages of completion. Previously, we’d just block out a bunch of time and go and track everything at once, but we can’t really do that right now.”
Where's the fun in that?!

Limp Bizkit, in my book, takes the award for "The Most Polarizing Band Ever." You either like them or you downright hate them with a deep, dark, burning passion. Rap-Rock, Rap-Metal, whatever, it doesn't matter, it's Limp Bizkit. I remember catching their video for "Counterfeit" on MTV and MTV2! Counterfeit was an awesome song since, to my young ears at the time, was the first time heavy music could make your head bounce (I already knew about headbanging, I just didn't have enough hair for the proper effect). Well, if you're one of the Bizkit holdouts chomping at the bit to hear some new music, I hope you're not afraid of snakes; on June 28th, Durst and company will release their latest album, "Gold Cobra."
