A recent, minor addition to Black Ops 2 suggests that the next entry of the Call of Duty series is likely going to be Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

The Internet super sleuth Drift0r is at it again, having release a video that studies some strange symbols added as background advertisements to a few of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's levels. When we say background advertisements, we mean it, as there rare only a couple of posters added to the game that weren't there before. As to what these posters say, they only contain the ghost logo for Snapchat with dots around it, which turns out to be a kind of QR code for the app. When scanned on Snapchat itself, the ghost poster and its dotted code adds the official Call of Duty Snapchat account to your friends list. Drift0r notes that Black Ops 2 had a minuscule update recently and patch notes weren't available for it, meaning that these new posters were the only things added to game with this latest update (he only found two or three of these posters throughout all of the multiplayer levels so far, and they contain the same Snapchat QR code for each).

As for what Call of Duty's Snapchat is currently broadcasting, we have found a cryptic video (featured below) that is zoomed in on a stranger's face with a voiceover saying "listen only to the sound of my voice." This could refer to the same type of brainwashing that Alex Mason encountered in the main story of Call of Duty: Black Ops. The major question we have is why wasn't this update added to the newer games, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts or Advanced Warfare? The fact that these new additions were implemented in 2012's Black Ops 2 as opposed to the more recent games suggests that Treyarch is likely gearing up for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. With the previous two games being Ghosts and Advanced Warfare, which were both new to the franchise, it would make sense that Activision would desire to return to one of the more familiar faces in the Call of Duty series.

Activision currently has a three-year development cycle going on with its three Call of Duty studios, Sledgehammer Games, Infinity Ward and Treyarch, where each team releases a new CoD every three years, and Activision alternates between each of the three for a new game presented to the public each year. Infinity Ward released Ghosts in late 2013, Sledgehammer Games launched Advanced Warfare in Nov. 2014, and Treyarch is next in line, which corroborates with the idea that we are returning to the Black Ops series, whose first two games were developed by Treyarch.

Of course, these updates don't necessarily mean that the next game is Black Ops 3 — they could just be Treyarch's unique way of teasing a new CoD game in general. Stay tuned as we'll provide up-to-date coverage on these mysterious teases once more information is released.
