For fans wondering where Cage the Elephant have been hiding out, the band has been busy in the studio, working on their latest album. With a targeted release date of this fall, their third studio effort will be released on RCA Records.

Vocalist Matt Shultz recently weighed in on the creative process for their new music, explaining, “When we set out to make this record we had a few different vague ideas for what direction we wanted to move in musically, but as usual the end result turned out nothing like what we had originally envisioned.”

He also talked about how new sounds were created and took shape, saying, “There was an element of playfulness and swagger absent on our last record that unexpectedly began to surface. At the same time the songs had a more inner-directed and reflective sound. Finally, we started experimenting with combining the two polar elements."

Shultz described the song-writing process as tense situation, sharing, “Every time we make a record we go to war with ourselves as individuals and as a collective.” At the end of the day though, it’s all about the music, explains Shultz, “We try to remain true to our convictions and in the end, we have to let go and let the record speak for its self. Letting go is the easy part, getting to that point is the struggle.”

The new disc was produced once again by Jay Joyce. Joyce has been at the helm for all of their previous records. The yet to be named release will serve as the follow up to their 2011 album ‘Thank You Happy Birthday’ which yielded the chart-topping rock single ‘Shake Me Down.'
