My job has given me a lot of really cool opportunities and experiences. I was recently on stage at the Ford Center in front of 8,000 fans…and just a couple days after that, I found myself in the St. Louis Cardinals radio broadcast booth. I shot some video so you could see for yourself what it’s like.

Now let me just say right off the bat (no pun intended) that I am Cubs fan of over 30 years…and of course that means that I can’t be a Cardinals fan. Those who know me know how I feel about the Cardinals. But as a lifelong fan of baseball, this was a really, really neat experience. The folks from the Cardinals organization couldn’t have been any nicer, and it’s hard not to be in awe of Busch Stadium.

Here’s the deal…our sister station ESPN Evansville 105.3 is a new radio affiliate for the Cardinals, so we were invited to attend their annual affiliate event at Busch Stadium. As luck would have it, we were randomly selected to go up and visit the broadcast booth. Kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity if you ask me. And as you’ll see in the video, it really is the best seat in the house.

As an unexpected little bonus, we got to meet Cardinals legend Red Schoendienst. Red turned 93 years old this year and still looks great. In fact, he washed down is daily meds with an ice cold Budweiser. Awesome! Red was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1989. I don’t care who your favorite team is, it is always cool to meet a hall of famer. By the way, Red is the fella in the red shirt, sitting next to me at the top row of the booth.
