Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park + Aerosmith to Headline 2014 Download Festival
The first batch of 2014 performers has been released for the Download Festival, one of Europe's biggest music gatherings. The three day extravaganza will be held June 13-15 at England's Donington Park, and some heavy hitters in rock and metal are slated to perform.
Day one will see Avenged Sevenfold headlining. It will be the first time A7X has headlined at Download or any other U.K. festival. Main support will be Rob Zombie. Meanwhile, Linkin Park are slated to headline on Saturday, June 14, supported by Fall Out Boy.
As part of their set, Linkin Park will be playing their 2000 album 'Hybrid Theory' in its entirety. “We have been kicking around the idea of playing 'Hybrid Theory' for some time and the perfect opportunity is Download 2014," says vocalist Chester Bennington. "The legendary energy of the Download crowd is the apex of the rock experience and we are very excited to share this special night with them.”
After the initial headliner announcement, there was an Internet uproar that the lineup wasn't metal enough. A campaign began to get bands like Dying Fetus on the bill, with the hashtag #WhyNotDyingFetus being spread across social media. It apparently worked. Dying Fetus have now been confirmed to perform at the festival.
The band posted the following on their Facebook page: "Ask and ye shall receive! Dying Fetus will be bringing their brutal death metal antics to the 2014 Download Festival in June. Thanks to all the fans who made #WhyNotDyingFetus blow up on the internets."
More performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
