I realize that Harpole's/Woody's has been closed for several years, but now the former night spot is officially gone. All that's left of this legendary bar is a pile of bricks and a whole lot of great (and blurry) memories.

I was standing around this morning, talking with Sandman and Ryan O'Bryan (former GBF night guy) about our times at Harpole's/Woody's. When I really think about it, I realize just how much time I spent at the spot on the Main Street exit. I imagine a lot of folks, of all different ages, are sharing memories today as that building comes tumbling down.

I wanted to share some of my fondest memories of Harpole's/Woody's, and I'd like to hear your memories too.

  • First off I remember that I was there at Woody's, doing a live broadcast that night of the fire. I can't really remember why I was there, but I remember getting a call from Sandman the next morning telling me about the fire. Crazy!
  • I remember being there to MC some great concerts out in the parking lot, including Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, and Theory of a Deadman.
  • I remember being there the night that Halestorm played. That was first of many trips to Evansville. That's when I fell in love with Lzzy!
  • I remember doing a promotion/contest there back in 2007 and again in 2008 called "Paper or Plastic." The winner got to choose between $1,000 or a free breast augmentation surgery. Ha!
  • I remember the Girls Gone Wild tour coming to Harpole's/Woody's a couple different times. And I remember some crazy chick from MTV's The Real World (I think her name was Tonya) was here for one of those crazy nights.
  • And I remember (for the most part) the countless Friday and Saturday nights spent there broadcasting live. We were usually there promoting one of those great local bands from back in the day...The Crowd, Never Been Caught, 3 O'Clock Charlie, Gonzo's Toybox and more.
  • I remember working with Zack to execute the "name the bar" contest which led to Harpole's turning in to Woody's.
