The host...is...here! Sorry, I couldn't resist. ESPN recently announced that WWE Superstar John Cena will the 24th annual ESPY awards coming up on July 13th.

I'd say this is pretty big news, considering that in the previous 23 years, only two other professional athletes have been asked to host (LeBron in '07 and Lance Armstrong in '06). Cena will be the first professional wrestler to host the ESPY's. And before you say anything, now is not the time to debate whether he is a "professional" athlete. We know what's up with the WWE. It is sports entertainment, and those guys and gals are freaking athletes. And Cena happens to be one of the best. So there.

I also find it interesting that Cena has never even attended the ESPY's and now he's being asked to host it. In fact, Cena has never any type of awards show. I think he'll do just fine though. You can't make it to his level in the WWE without being good on the mic and being able to think on your feet.

Another bonus to Cena hosting? He can make fun of any athlete he wants. Who's gonna say something?

After Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena has had the most crossover success. He's been in several movies, including a role in Trainwreck with Amy Schumer. He's been featured on the Total Divas reality TV show on E! and is now hosting a reality show competition (American Grit) on FOX. Seems like a perfect fit to host an awards show like the ESPY's.
