After twelve years on the air, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia knows how to play its well-honed characterizations with a little topical flair. And if we’re going to look into the whole “Dennis Reynolds is a murderer” thing, you can bet that the resurgence of true crime documentaries was the way to go, as seen in Season 12's “Making Dennis Reynolds a Murderer” trailer.

FXX and Always Sunny released a Making a Murderer-style trailer for Season 12's fifth outing, in which Dennis (Glenn Howerton) finds himself accused of – spoiler alert – the murder of Maureen Ponderosa. It’s hard to say if Always Sunny will ever permanently lean into these long-running theories like Mac’s sexuality, Dennis’ serial-killer tendencies or Charlie’s illiteracy, but in the meantime, so reads the “Making Dennis Reynolds a Murderer” synopsis:

An episode filmed in the true crime style of Making a Murderer and The Jinx which begins with 911 call: A cat-woman formerly known as Maureen Ponderosa has been found dead in an alley and Dennis is the prime suspect.

The episode in question will air next Wednesday, February 1 on FXX, but judge for yourself in the trailer above.
