It's been a difficult past few years for 3 Doors Down. The multiplatinum band has had to deal with a couple of lineup changes, one brought on by the criminal actions of founding bassist Todd Harrell.

Harrell was driving in Tennessee on the night of April 19, 2013, when he clipped a pickup truck and sent it barreling over a guard rail. That vehicle's driver, 47-year-old Paul Shoulders Jr., died of his injuries. Harrell had alprazolam and oxycodone in his system and was determined to be driving 101 mph at the time of the crash.

He would later get another DUI in a separate incident, but in late December of 2015, he was sentenced in Nashville to two years in prison for his crimes related to the April 2013 incident that resulted in the fatality. According to The Tennessean, his sentence can be reduced to one year based on good behavior, but he also faces 6 years probation. Harrell entered prison on Dec. 28, 2015.

Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez talked with 3 Doors Down about the situation in the video interview above. Singer Brad Arnold told her, "For us, he was more than our bandmate, he's our brother. I've known Todd for a lot longer than we've been in the band together ... We'll never turn our back on him. He's definitely got his things to face right now. And [our new song] 'Fell From the Moon' is sort of about him, just of how you can have everything going your way and it can all fall apart."

Arnold goes on to talk about the last time he spoke with Harrell. See the full interview in the video above.

3 Doors Down recently released the album Us and the Night, which is available at iTunes.
