Today the Department of Defense announced the women will be allowed to take combat roles in our military. While this announcement moves us a little closer to equality among the genders, there is still a long way to go.

Even though women are capable of enduring the pain of childbirth, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Catholic Youth Organization has a rule that says girls can't play football. That rule could prevent 11 year old Caroline Pla from being able to play next year.

Pla has been playing the sport since the age of 5. In a recent appearance on "Ellen", Pla says she may have hurt a few of her competitors one time or another. However the Youth Organization claims their rule was created to "protect girls".

Pla's mother started a petition on Change.org to allow Caroline to play next year. Get over to the site and sign!

Its 2013. If girls can serve on the front lines in our military, they can play football!
