Today’s Loud List was made in honor of one of metal’s most legendary frontmen, Metallica’s James Hetfield.

When someone says the word “metal” James Hetfield’s face could likely be the first to pop up in your mind. As the leader of the genre’s most commercially successful act, Hetfield helped set the standard for all thrash bands and even metal as a whole. With 110 million albums sold worldwide, Metallica has been untouchable.

This list covers the entirety of Hetfield’s career as a heavy metal force, beginning with some rabid stage banter from Metallica’s earliest days. You’ll also see Hetfield looking back on late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton, pointing out the attributes which James respected most about his fellow pioneer.

James Hetfield has gone through his share of rough times as well, documented vividly in the Some Kind of Monster documentary. The film chronicled James’ return from rehab after finally seeking help for alcohol abuse. Hetfield’s intense war of words with drummer Lars Ulrich also remains one of Some Kind of Monster’s most memorable moments.

One of our personal favorite Hetfield moments comes from Metallica’s 2009 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. During his acceptance speech, Hetfield began with name dropping all the heavy rock and metal acts who had been snubbed thus far, possibly helping pave the way for the inductions of acts like KISS and Deep Purple.
